Christmas in Australia

The Country of Australia around Christmas 

     Christmas day falls in the summer school holiday. The 25th and the 26th of December are public holidays. For Australia, the season is very hot. Christmas is usually spent with close friends or relatives. Many people spend Christmas day at the beach or maybe even camping.  

Tradition

     Many people decorate their house with electric lights, candles, and a Christmas tree. The Christmas trees are decorated with ornaments of Australian wildlife such as bilbies, koalas, king parrots, Waratah flowers. Small statues of native animals in Santa hats and sleighs pulled by groups of six white kangaroos are also popular so are Santa's in beach clothes. They also decorate with sand snowman and fake snow. On the night of Christmas Eve neighbors have light decoration contests.

Food

     Traditionally the main meal is similar to the meals served in Europe. They eat roast meats, vegetables, heavy fruit cakes and steamed puddings. A small coin is often baked inside the steamed pudding. Whoever finds the coin in his or her portion, would have a lucky year.However, now many people choose to hold a barbecue at the beach or a picnic in a park or prepare a meal of cold meat and seafood.
