CHRISTMAS IN ENGLAND 2013

Traditions-England's traditions include people putting on masks and act out plays. they were called mummerings. They do not call him the gift giver Santa. They call him Father Christmas. They did not open there present till the day  after. On the next day its no longer Christmas but boxing day. They call it this because boys would go around with clay boxes and when it was full they would punch it and it would break. hense the name boxing day.

Food-In England Christmas dinner was usually eaten at Midday on December 25, during daylight. They also have big feast they consist of eating turkey, mashed yams, and they also had a ground smoked pig. They also eat goose and roast beef. It is also common to eat turkey, roast veggies, bacon and sausages. For dessert they would mince pies. They had other desserts such as candy and cream pudding. The cream pudding was very rich in alcohol. The recipe include alcohol. It is so rich in alcohol that it is ignited before serving.

decorations-. They hung only homemade ordaments on christmas they would go out and cut down a pine tree. They would put only a star or an angel on a tree. The traditional Christmas colors were red and green. Red symbolizes joy and friendship between all people and to set aside all diffrences and celebrate Christmas. The also hung banners to welcome father christmas into their home. A long time ago Christmas decorations would be put up on Christmas Eve and never before. Many actually believed that it was unlucky to put decorations up before. today in England nobody puts all of their Decorations up on Christmas eve many actually put them up one or two weeks before. If you don't take your decorations down before the end of the Twelve Days of Christmas it will bring you bad luck. This tradition has been around since the reign of Queen Victoria.
